Some Inuit groups traditionally practised name sharing, where a newborn was given the name of a recently deceased person. The child was treated as carrying something of that person’s identity, blurring the line between individual lives.

2018, Sri Lanka tensions. Sinhalese Buddhist extremist monks and mobs incited violence against Muslim communities, including riots and property destruction. Agitators justified actions as protecting Buddhism and the nation from perceived Islamic religious and cultural threat.

Redefining God
Faced with contradictions, scientific refutation, and moral embarrassment, many modern believers no longer defend the god their scriptures describe. They quietly replace him. God becomes energy, love, consciousness, the universe, the ground of being, or something intentionally undefined. God as love is a common refuge. Love, however, is a human emotion with biological roots and psychological mechanisms. It requires minds, brains, and nervous systems. To say god is love does not explain love or identify a being. It renames a feeling and calls it divine. This definition removes god’s agency, intention, and personality while keeping the emotional comfort of the word. It does not preserve belief. It empties it.
