Weird and Religious
In early Japan, there are legends of hitobashira, or “human pillars,” where people were supposedly buried alive at the base of bridges or castles to appease spirits and ensure the stability of the structure. Whether all accounts are historical or partly mythical, the belief shows a link between construction and sacrifice.

2000, Maluku and Sulawesi in Indonesia. Continued clashes between Christian and Muslim militias involved bombings, village burnings, and killings. Each side justified attacks as defence of churches or mosques, protecting believers, and resisting religious encroachment.

In Confucianism, filial piety is fundamental, and Confucianism stresses respect, care, and duty toward parents and ancestors.
Imagination and ritual
Understanding the early gods of war, sex, and crops strips religion of its later mystique. These beings were never about cosmic meaning or universal ethics. They were attempts to control an uncontrollable environment using imagination and ritual. They were invented because humans needed leverage where none existed. That they later became moral judges and eternal creators does not erase their origins. It only hides them.
